Benchmarks comparing C2D to Venice?

All the benches Ive seen so far compare conroe to AMD dual cores, naturally. But Im sure there are reviews that throw single core like venice into the mix. wondering if I REALLY need to uprage my cpu mobo right now or just get 1 gig more ram?

I went from an Opteron 144 to an E6420.

Superpi1M on the opteron 144 at 3.0 GHz was 28.060s
Superpi1M on the E6420 at stock 2.13 GHz was 23.719s

Aquamark 3d on the opteron 144 at 3.0 GHz with a 8800GTS was 110,xxx
Aquamark 3d on the E6420 at stock 2.14 GHz with a 8800GTS was 126,279

I am now in the 14 seconds in Superpi1M at 3.5 on the 6420 as well as over 190K in Aquamark 3d.

I was in the same boat you were in and bit the bullet. I wish I would have done it sooner.

That's exactly the info I was looking for. The new 6420's are looking mighty tempting, and appear to be worth saving the $35 instead of getting the e6600.

I upgraded my main pc from a Venice 3000+ and it's night and day for me

single core -> dual core is a big improvement so you don't need any benchies to prove this. Even the core improvements of the C2D will blow Venices out of the water.
