Benchmark software to test storage alternatives

I recently built an all-in-one (thanks, Gea) and am comparing the performance of several file service alternatives (NFS, iSCSI, SMB) . The IOmeter and HD Tune utilities are good but they require a Windows front end and all of my tests are done with Linux VMs. Which Linux benchmark software is popular among members of this forum? The tests should cover random and sequential I/O with several block sizes.
