I see many benches for brand new products. As properly befits a web site dedicated to 'OC' the benches are very good at giving up numbers on how well product X is performing at launch. Once performance is determined then it is compared to price.
My question, does anyone know of a set of benches that show older products 8800 gtx, gtx 200's etc, (as well as ATI/AMD equivalents) as they go from release to present. We are all told that drivers are optimized over time, if so then we should see the products bench better and better.
Of course said benches should cover not just Direct X versions, Open GL would also need to be compared.
I am thinking of this because it seems to me that product longevity and useful lifespan should also also be a consideration when purchasing a bright shiny new vid card that I might need to sell an organ to afford.
I also wonder if graphics card company X does a better support role then company Y. I may well be willing to spend more for a (seemingly) slower product at launch if said company has a strong history of improving performance over time and keeping the merchandise they sell working effectively longer.
Anyhow, Anyone know of some benches along those lines? I'd say more driver effectiveness and innovation over time rather then pure computational power.
