Ben Q G2400W 1:1 not working for some resolution, and DO WE REALLY NEED 1:1 from LCD?

I have HD 3850 512 MB running though a single link DVI-D cable came with the G2400W.

At first, only few resolution works perfect in 1:1 like 1440 : 900, 1600:1200, rest like 1920:1080 display in full screen, 1680:1050 display in full. 13xx:8xx has the same display area as 1400:900 etc.

Then I found if I set "Picture in Center" in ATI's control center then all other resolution works perfectly, save 1680:1050 which still display in full screen. Now if I use GPU Scaling, then everything is perfect.(since the signal really is 1920:1200 all the time) If someone can help me with how to make monitor's scaling work for 1650:1080 would be great though.

Now this rise the next question, if GPU Scaling is this good and induce close to zero lag as someone posted in the "Input Lag Measurement Thread."

Why do we consider 1:1 a nice feature? Why don't we just use GPU Scaling and be done with it?

You can't use GPU scaling with game consoles and cable boxes. For computer use, it doesn't really matter.

Very true. That's a good point. But that aside, it really seems 1:1 is useless for computer.

1:1 mapping only useful if (in my opinion):

1. You are playing a older games that does not support widescreen resolutions.

2. Video card is too weak to play at native resolution, but you do not want the game to fill up the entire screen because that would decrease graphics quality to some extent.

You missed my point, I agree 1:1 is great and useful, just use video card to do the work seems much better.

I need 1:1 maping for my Xbox360 to display properly... though as it turns out, the November console update will support 16:10 resolutions.

does that mean i dont need 1:1 pixelmapping for the upcoming PS3?
(im between 2493hm and v2400w, but the samsung has no 1:1)
