Take a look at my sig. Since I am running a P6T Motherboard, I have to run the GTX 280s right next to eachother, leaving very little room inbetween. This results in the card that is on top being about 8 C hotter then the one below it.
On full load the highest I have seen the 280s get is 83/88C. The highest I have seen the i7 920 get is ~53C. I am cooling the i7 with a Noctua NH-U12P SE1366. The CPU is at stock speed. You may ask why I am using that heatsink without overclocking? Longevity.
So far I have heard that these temps for both the video cards and the cpu are fine and nothing I should worry about. My question is, do you think this is average for the type of cooling setup I have? I assumed the temps would be better then this, at least for the CPU.
I have 9, yes nine 120mm fans in this Antec 1200 case, as well as the big 200mm fan at the top. If you are familiar with the architecture of the 1200 then this is how I have the fans arranged.
The three in the hard drive bays are running at maximum speed as intake. I also have an extra fan in one of the hard drive bays aligned with the two video cards, speeding up the intake, and blowing air on to them.
I then have the side window fan as an exhaust for the video cards. I have experimented with this, and it appears that I get better temps if I have it as an exhaust.
There are two 120mm fans on the Noctua, and then two at the back of the case serving as exhaust. Finally the big 200mm at the top as an exhaust.
I initially hoped the video cards would be running much cooler then this. After realizing how hot they run, and that they are practically on top of each other, I have semi-convinced myself these temperatures are average. I did think that the CPU would be running much cooler though, especially considering its at stock speed/settings.
Do you think its necessary to have two fans on the Noctua? Every time I check, it barely feels warm. If not, I could probably move one of the Noctua fans to the hard drive bay, as the two I bought for the hard drive bay and the side window don't appear to be great quality. See here.
