I've got a maxtor diamond plus 9, or something. It's a 120Gb ata133, 8mb cache, IDE harddrive. This one my system's running on right now is actually the replacement of a maxtor that has already died on me. I got it replaced by maxtor and after about 6 months, my computer is starting to feel the same as when it did right before the harddrive failure.

Anyway, I'm not necessarily making this post to see what the problem is and stuff, I'd like advice on getting a new harddrive. I'm thinking about trying out the SATA world. Newegg has a WD 200Gb SATA for around 150$. It's an oem drive so what else would I need to get this going? How is this drive? Can anyone else recommend me a harddrive. I'm looking for reliability first and formost.

i've never had a problem with Seagate drives. the OEM units have a 3 year warranty.

i got an ATA100 version of the 200GB Seagate for like $128 at mwave. if they have the SATA version, i'm sure it costs a bit more.

Just a question, do you have that 9800 Pro plugged into the same power lead as your hard drive?
I've had some problems doing that and have read of others having HD's die because of the same thing.

I do believe they are, actually. I will play with the wires sometime, if I get around to it.

I'm either going to buy a 160gb Seagate SATA or a 200gb WD SATA. WD and Seagate are both known for their stability as far as I know.

My question is how hard is it to set up SATA? I haven't bothered once with it. Is it an extra channel? Will the cords needed come with an OEM drive. I think I might have one that came with my a7n8x-d. It's the second revision of them and does support SATA. I believe I already have the needed bios. I'm running 1007, I think.

Thanks for input.
