Appoligies in advance if this has been covered somewhere else but i couldn't find it

Recently I had a bit of a rowdy get together and quite a bit of beer went flying and stupid me didn't have my side panel on while using my computer for the music, since then my computer has been quite unstable with blue screening, and general freezing, i have had a bit of a poke around and found traces of beer and other beverages on my motherboard (Abit 1C-7 Max3), graphics card (MSI Ti 4200 :( ) and tv tuner card (Fusion HDTV Plus)

any sugestions on the best way of cleaning this items would be greatly apreciated

cheers, pritchy

alcohol and a q tip.

edit: Rubbing Alcohol

Hah, that's good stuff. :D

99% pure isopropyl alcohol is best. Rubbing alcohol contains ~20% water.

you can pick up some 97% Isopropyl alcohol at target/walmart for like 4 or 5 bucks. use that.

after you've used that + lint-free cloth (or q-tip, i guess), wait for it to dry OVERNIGHT. i.e. after you've finished cleaning it, wait for a night before you use the components again -- the Isopropyl alcohol will evaporate within a few minutes, but just incase there's still some beer there, wait for it to evaporate--you don't want to turn your rig on and fry everything.

Alcohol + Rowdy friends + Computer = Bye bye computer.

I hold LANs at my house on Sunday nights, I have pretty much 2 rules...

1. pickup after yourself
2. NO ALCOHOL!

Rule #2 is pretty much just because we have a couple guys under 21 that come in...and I don't want the fucking cops after me. I think out of all my years of drinking shit at the computer I've spilled ONE glass of water on my keyboard.

If the beer got into the ACP/PCI connectors, that's a whole lot of Q-Tip action. Or do it the lazy man's way: dishwasher, top rack, no soap, no dry cycle. Rinse connectors with purified water to prevent hard-water deposits. Let airdry for a day or two, perhaps with some help from a hair dryer on low.

A vapor degreasor would be even better, but good luck finding someone who has one (and will let you use it).

Please post pics if you put it in the dishwasher.

LANs just aren't as fun without teh booze.

And going to jail for "Contributing to the delinquency of a minor" is a shitload of fun too. Thunder-dick's an okay guy. But I'd prefer my rear-end being exit only.

In all seriousness, Every LAN I've ever attended has been non-alcoholic. If you feel you must have alcohol to have fun, that is unfortunate.

I find that being a drunk is both fun and unfortunate...

I once spilled a whole thing of tuna fish on my keyboard, couldnt get the smell of mayoniase and tuna fish outa it for week :p

If you want to disgust yourself, peel a few keys off of your keyboard and look at the gunk that accumulates there.

yes it will, but that's a whole lotta aclohol and therefore a whole lotta cash...

i work for an electronics company, and the way we wash our PCB's is to run them in a dishwasher using only hot water for a complete cycle (no soap, no heated dry).....after the cycle, remove the PCB and submerge them in isopropanol (alcohol).....and finally, we dry them with a blast of compressed air to evaporate all the alcohol.

Sounds very interesting, maybe you wouldn't mind posting pictures of this process?
