So, my old generic "VPower" PSU finally shit the bed and I picked up a new Antec SmartPower 2.0 from NewEgg. Poppped it in, and it's lovely. Very quiet, nicely build, and doesn't randomly shot-down my computer like my old one did.

Anyway, I was playing WoW this morning and something in my case started beeping. I am assuming it's the PSU since thats the newest thing in my case and it never I've never heard anything beep before. I dont even have a case speaker hooked up. It starts out as a slow beep, then progressively gets faster. The strange thing though is that if I alt-tab my game window, it immedinately stops beeping and when I am on the desktop, using the web or whatever, it doesn't beep at all.

So, why the hell would thing thing be beeping? All my temps are in the normal range, all my fans are running fine. The PSU seems a little hot, but thats might just be something I'm not used to, since the main fan is on the front, not the back. Any one know if it's SUPPOSED to beep or what? Manual for it is no help at all.

Must be WOW.

Maybe your PSU aint strong enough? or is flaky?

better not be flaky, it's BRAND SPANKING NEW. Antec has a good reputation so I wouldn't expect that it's a peice of crap. And even if it were, is it SUPPOSED to beep at me?

Not owning a Antec so i'm only guessing here but i think it may be beeping since it was overheating.

Thats what I'm thinking... or something is bad and it's overloading... kinda odd.

List your system specs.

My guess would be that you didn't hook up the fan control and the MB is not able to turn on the Antec's fan, thus giving a beeping noise. Go back read the directions hook it up right.

DING DING DING

Damnit, I can't believe I looked right at that fan hookup and said "gee I wonder what this is for" then proceeded to leave it unplugged.

That connection is just for RPM monitoring, not to power the fan. The rear fan does not spin by default and only comes on under high load.

Hahaha...well I figured out what I did was even MORE retarded than leaving the monitoring header unplugged.

When I looked at the fan plug to plug in the monitoring header for the PSU I noticed something was missing. Plus, it was really hot down there. Felt the back of my video card and it was BAKING hot...turns out, I had forgotten to plug the video card fan back in! DUUUUH!.

Doesnt seem to be any permanent damage though and to the card's credit, it did play WoW and CS:S just fine without any fan AND survived being left on for 2 days straight. 9600XT FTW!.

lol.....when i turn my computer on w/o vc plugged in i get a loud constant beep right at post...yours waited untill it was in game?
