Engadget has a story about people that are so upset over the infamous “Error 0103” issue with PowerDVD Ultra that they are taking their case to the Better Business Bureau.

The main problem appears to occur with those using an HDMI or DVI-to-HDMI connection between their video card and display device, with the video reportedly only playing for a few seconds before throwing up an "Error 0103" message stating that the player couldn't be initialized.

All I have to say is, this is what happens with patently stupid requirements of multiple layers of HDCP hardware and software that ultimately get hacked and leave it so only the pirates can actually use it, because the asinine hoops people (and software companies) have to go through to get legitimate content to work.

Hmm I never got that error, I did however have an error in which audio would play for a split second and then stop. I was using the DVI out to the DVI connection of my TV. The audio, however, came from the composite audio out, on my motherboard, to the composite audio in, on my reciever.

What good is the BBB report going to do?

Nothing. No one even cares about the BBB anymore. If the BBB tries to contact a business and the business doesn't respond, they leave it at that.

My mom was recently ripped off by an online retailer. It was only a $50 or so swimming equipment thing, but she kept contacting them about her order. They charged her and kept assuring her it was (gasp) on backorder, the dreadful red flag that a company is starting to lie.

Of course, it didn't come, and she said she filed a police report and a complaint with the BBB. I told her the BB is useless and to always check resellerratings.com instead.

Anyone know of that phone billing scam where some company is ghosting a phone charge to people's phone bills? The phone company will charge you for it (happened to my girlfriend) and hundreds of people have complained to the BBB, but the BBB said the company didn't respond so they've stopped investigating.
