I have the most recent drivers, Catalyst 5.3. I have used 5.2 as well, and I have strange rendering issues in CS Source and Half Life 2. I have not yet installed any other games.

My CPU is an A64 3000+ @ 2.16 Ghz and 240 FSB on an MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum.

Here is a picture of the issue.

Can anyone offer any solutions? 3Dmark 2005 runs fine.

I had that same thing goin on.
I uninstalled drivers rebooted into safe mode and there was still some nvidia stuff in there.
No idea if thats what caused it but On the fresh install of the drivers it worked fine.

This is a new build, so I don't think I have any nvidia video drivers hiding anywhere. What I did do was install DNA 5.2 first, then I installed Catalyst 5.1, then I used Driver Cleaner Pro and cleaned out everything before installing Catalyst 5.3. I will test Far Cry later.

Are there any more possible causes/solutions on this problem?

Try setting the clock speed down to default. If that doesn't work, it looks like you have some missing textures, and have to reinstall HL2 or find the missing texture. Usually it spams it in the console if it can't find it.

I will try later, my system is doing something right now. I have my video card at stock, but I will lower FSB.

I downloaded HL2 from steam. What do you mean by "Usually it spams it in the console if it can't find it."?

Thanks for helping guys! :)

For example, when I play CS source, HL2 occasionally can't find some odd sound or res file and if you open up the console, it shows it up saying "Can't find xxxxx.xxx!" in red text. If it does that when you're looking at that filler texture (purple and black squares) then you've got some missing files.

I lowered my FSB back to stock, but the errors in HL2 and CS Source were still there. I looked in the console and this is what it was spewing out:

Material models/props_canal/canal_cap001 is being applied to a model, you need $model=1 in the .vmt file!
Material models/props_canal/canal_cap001 is being applied to a model, you need $model=1 in the .vmt file!

So whats going on? I played the first training level of Far Cry, but there is nothing like this.

I had something similar happen when I had a 6600gt. It. I changed drivers and the problem went away.

If no other games are doing this, it sounds like an issue with HL2 itself. Try reinstalling the game, or replacing the corrupt or missing file that it's spamming.

Yeah, thanks guys, it turned out my HL2 and CS files were corrupted, and after 2 reinstalls everything checked out.

Thanks! :)
