Man, the console boys sure are a-twitter today, whining about getting smaller maps. With fewer simultaneous players, what did they expect?

Can't wait to hear the "experts" tell me why this is so unfair.

Oh please they are crying? LOL let them cry as they suck down the next itteration od COD and not say a peep when it's the same fuckin game as the last 4. LOL LOL

The lack of understanding in a comment like that twitter post makes me want to think it's someone just trolling, but sadly it probably isn't. Clearly, the only way for dice to not have to make this statement is to limit the map sizes to smaller than they could be on the PC. That would prevent them from making any consolers angry, yet either way, their final product will be the same. It's the PC product that they're changing.

(yes, technically they could tone down the graphics on consoles to make the maps bigger but that's really the same situation, just using a different variable)

It's an interview with Patrick Bach at german gaming site GameZone.de which is making the rounds, just to clear up what the "hoopla" is about:

DICE boss Patrick Bach explained: "The biggest difference between the PC and console version of Battlefield 3 is that we have 64 players on PC and 24 players maximum on console. The rest is more or less the same: we use the same engine, the same technology, the same animation system, the same lighting system. Our aim is to give the player the exact same experience and not try to dumb down the console version.

"If you want the same quality of game, I would say it's really, really hard. We tried to get more players in [to the console version] but then you need to scale down all the graphics, scale down all the destructibility, and sometimes you need to scale down all the map sizes. Everything is a compromise on: where do you cut?

"You could argue that other games do [fewer] players as well. There are games that do less, and there are games that do more. We don't see games that have more players as a better experience, so having more players per se doesn't automatically give you a better experience."

[...]

When asked if the maps in both versions were the same, Bach added: "More or less. When we say they are smaller, it's not that we have cut them in half. But we tried to compact them slightly to keep the action up. [...]"

Edit: Oh, the IRONY. It's killing me.

Can't believe you guys missed the part where they are making a 2143.

Serious? What's your source? Or do you mean BF3 is like 2142? [edit: Oh I see it the previous page, thought I looked there..ya doesn't look reliable, hoping so though.]

START WATCHING AT 2:56 for destruction.

Holy shit the second floor of that building disappeared!! Fucking awesome.

There is a problem with stuff disappearing though. Notice all the rubble and debris really did disappear very quickly. Hopefully it is not like that.

I almost don't want to buy the game anymore because that guys laugh was so freaking annoying.

I doubt it. That is a lot of computing power for it to keep tabs of destruction on a 64 player map. This is progression, but we still have a long ways to go before it will be like that.

I'd rather have an extra 10+ FPS than made sure that the bricks are still genned from an explosion at this point in time. Fading after X seconds would suffice

Sweet. I got Alpha access.

Looks like I will be downloading Origin afterall

I received the email a few days ago, while I was camping. :(

I have veteran status, and I also purchased the Limited Edition of MoH.

Maybe, me purchasing BFBC2 & MoH on PC and PS3 had an effect as well?! lol.

Ahh i see. You probably got it for the limited moh thing. Either way, thats effin awesome. Im soo jealous lol.

Enjoy!

if they add the games you lost can you play them with origin?

I called up EA Support the other day and asked them to add my BF2, 2142, Crysis, and Crysis Warhead games to my Origin account and it was pretty painless.
They just added the BF2 Complete Collection and 2142 Deluxe Edtition for simplicity.
Crysis and Warhead were just added separately instead of adding the Maximum Edition.

Is it really that hard just to read a couple of pages back in the thread?

http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/bat...-and-answers-on-the-alpha-trial-and-beta.aspx

How can I get into the Alpha Trial?

It is a highly tech focused test period where the main purpose is to do a number of server related tests in preparation for game launch requiring a set amount of players online to ensure the final experience is as much fun and easy as possible.

Is this the Beta promised to buyers of Medal of Honor: Limited Edition?

No, this is an Alpha Trial, meaning this software is still not at the "Beta" development milestone. The Open Beta will start in September. The exact date for when Medal of Honor: Limited Edition players can join the Beta will be announced at a later date.

Can I join the Battlefield 3 Closed Alpha Trial?

The Alpha is a closed test and by invitation only. If you'd like to have a chance to be called upon make sure to register for our newsletter and ensure your Veteran status is up to date.

We are also not giving away keys to the Alpha Trial on any of our social networking platforms.

http://bf3alpha.battlefield.com/ will only generate a key if your account has received an invite.

No it's not hard.

What I'm trying to say is many guys I know just got in "Just Now" without letter or invite. Somehow they got in using the link I posted. Perhaps they are generating the list and E-mails haven't been sent yet.

According to some German site everybody who has an Origin account can now register for an Alpha Trial key.

I haven't been able to get it to work yet but some people have gotten keys without invites.

EDIT: nvm, most likely fake.

i wonder what constitutes having an Origin account? i just logged onto the Origin store using my EA online username and password. i've never purchased from Origin and don't have any software installed from them. wonder if i technically have an Origin account?

I believe all EA accounts will soon (if not already) be Origin accounts. read the EA site you will see it if you goto support area after you login.

I cant login with my BC2 email thats linked to my soldier on Origin ?

Use your master EA login. Which should be the same as whatever login you use to get into BC2. Which is also the same login I use to get into the Origin client. That's how it is for me.

Brothers friend got alpha invite and gave the code to my brother, so he's been playing it tonight. He's a fairly picky gamer like me and first impressions are good, so a bit of a relief.

I'm liking the animation(s) smoothness in the last movie posted here. Seems to screw with my brain, very nice.

Hopefully they scale all the way to 120hz.

Check the alpha site NOW because a LOT of people are getting in!

including me :)
