Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

Long range recons are worthless and are generally terrible at FPS games, though I agree people can play whatever "role" they want to. It's their game.

But let's not put lipstick on a pig.

Ill snipe to break things up..i like to dabble in all of the trades...but to only play like that is ghey. Engineer is my favorite...i love ridin in tanks an blowin shit up

Plus the fact that when you spawn on your squad mate to find him further out from combat, in the middle of no where, its a long run back to the action. During beta I was on a server that I was doing well on, (I'm not a good player, but loved the game), so I didn't want to leave the server, but three of my squad were just sitting in fields in caspian sniping or trying to snipe. It was frustrating to say the least.

Yeah, I constantly got stuck with those same three on Metro and as you pointed out, squad spawn is useless when the rest of your squad never leaves the spawn area, or worse yet moves even further away from the objectives.

See, I've got less of a problem with a sniper like that who is actually getting kills and performing proper counter-sniping or suppressing an objective.

The big problem is the people who think they're sniping and end up 2-6 in the course of an entire 30 minute round ("but did you see those two kills? omg! I sniped them!") They don't spot or assist the team in anyway...and then they'll randomly spawn on you when you're attacking/defending an objective and give your position away or some nonsense. If you're not good at sniping (you know who you are) perhaps you should pick a class that will not only help the team, but net you a crapload of points in doing so.

Ammo boxes and med packs are more valuable than any sniper, and that is coming from someone who has 3 million points for his recon class in BC2, lol.

Yeah, it's amazing how many points you can get just by dropping ammo or a medpack for your squad members.

I just wish they would make squads a little bigger and allow you to force snipers into their own squad as having a 2-3 in your squad really cuts back on your enjoyment since you'll be running from your normal spawn area and normally get picked off a couple times before you actually make it back to the area the fight is actually taking place.

Just out of curiousity, is Origin planning on allowing preloading, and is it available yet?

To everyone who bought through Amazon the preload of the game is now available.

Say wha??? That's a whole day early. :)

Not letting me download yet (CDT)

Oops sorry, I'm at work and when I was on Amazon and went to the digital section I saw the "preload available" and a download button and assumed they started early, I did not notice that to the right it said 7am on the 21st so I assumed it was available now but of course I didn't test it as work would likely frown on that. lol!

Ah, okay; no worries. I just though you were in a 'special' time zone or something!

Everyone has to pre-load through Origin. Amazon will only email the key, and that will add the game to your account. EA still has to activate the servers first at 7am PST.

Just got a preload info email. It will be available to preload tomorrow.

Hope they just didnt copy and paste files from the beta folder to the RTM folder lol.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for pre-ordering Battlefield 3. We would like to remind you
that your pre-load of the game begins tomorrow, October 21st. You will
receive an Email from us tomorrow by 11:59pm PDT, which will include
your order information and instructions on how to begin your pre-load.

So just to be clear - please use AMD Catalyst 11.10 V3 Preview + 11.9 CAP3 for BF3 release week

all you AMD guys, here is your driver INFO

Curious, if you buy the game and get your key from Amazon - put the key into Origin - can you then install from the disc? My download cap is getting close >.> and I'd like to use my buddies disc from his retail purchase.

Pre-loading instructions? really?

How hard can it be to click a pre-load or download button on the bf3 game icon in origin? Just keep battlelog offline.. there is no way for us to launch the game without it correct?

What are you talking about? Forget to quote someone?

Cacelled my dvd pre-order...from amazon thinking I was going to get the sale download...waited too long and it was gone lol :(
Should I pre-order it again guys? :)

gamersgate letting me download it right now. They also provided me with a code to register it with Origin as expected.

Anyone else who cancelled their Origin pre-order still having it show up in Origin? I re-ordered through Amazon, but don't want to get billed twice if Origin screws up (I do have a cancellation email).

Origin charged my credit card on the day I pre-ordered. Did they do the same for you? If so you should see a credit applied.

My god. All I'm going to do is go to work and back home and nog leave my house. My first several weekends will become very anti social after bf3 release date.

So we have a web interface that does the back end function like the scrabble game =D

While good, we need the ability to link the EA ID to one of our existing personas. It can't be difficult.

I really could care less about Origin name just want one of my regular EA personas for the soldier name

I didn't notice a charge when I pre-ordered, but now I'll have to go and check. I know Amazon said they would only charge when it was released (for pre-loading).

There's always a good portion clueless people in any group... knowing how large of a group this game is catering to, this is is required. It's more of a reminder email to me though which people like me appreciate who don't always have Origin running.

You can browse Battlelog without Origin running and when you join anything Origin will start automatically.
