I remember playing BF2 when it first came out and I was disappointed. It was hella buggy and it lagged a lot. I only ran it with 512mb ram on this system, but recently added another gig so I have 1.5gigs and I know BF2 is demanding as much as possible. I am running a 6600GT.

You think I would see a lot of improvement since I played it last? Is it still worth buying?
 
I bought it once and sold it then bought it again with hopes of having a better time.


Sold it again.
 
It's tons of fun. If you join a good server that utilizes teamwork, you won't regret buying it.
 
Spend time looking for a good server, try using a headset sometime, and try playing with friends. I have the most fun playing with people I know on headsets.
 
YOu need BF2 to play BF2:Sf...i am 99% sure.

SF is like a add on.

I have 1GB ram and 6600GT and i play with medium settings and i have 400 hours ob BF...awesome game, but EA is gay and EA is gonna kill battlefield series, don't belive me? take a look at 2142 :rolleyes:

You can tune bf2 to run well in a 1.5 gig footprint. You can't tune it to run well in 512MB. If memory was your only performance issue, then you'll definately see an improvement, especially on the larger servers.

yes! but be careful about patch 1.22.
 
I bought a Maxtor 200GB SATA drive at Fry's for only $69.99 no MIR!

Then I went ahead and picked up BF2 and my GuildWars Factions Pre-order.

At first, BF2 sucked because it was lag lag lag everywhere. I went to a server tracker online and found a server that had a low ping ect. The game isn't bad.
 
BF2 is a great game. My friend and I will play it for hours on end. We use cell phones for communication since my headset sucks. It runs fine at high settings. I have a 6800gt, 2.8 P4, and 2 gigs of ram. I also put my page file on a separate physical drive. That plus the extra ram helped alot. It was very laggy when I was running one gig of ram before. The resolution is kind of low though at 1024x768 but it works.
 
While 2GB's of RAM helps, it's not really necessary if running settings of medium and low. It's when you crank up the settings to HIGH is when you need it the most. However, you should have at least 1GB to play it on Medium settings.


BF2 ownz me...I love it.
 
the game needs RAM, that's it. 512 is a no-no with BF2, at least 1GB... I played it with 768 MB of 1066 RDRAM and it lagged like hell, then I built a new rig with 2GB of ram and I get no lag at all, loads fast and it's even more fan.
 
I have a laptop with CoreDuo 2.0Ghz, 1 GB RAM, 100GB 5400RPM hard drive, and 7800 GO graphics card. I play with most settings at medium, 1440 resolution (whatever the highest selectable is, even though my screen's native is 1680x1050), and 100% draw distance. I get no lag on a 256k connection (pings are between 30 and 70 most of the time). Map loading takes a little bit of time though.

My desktop is a 3.2Ghz Pentium, 1GB RAM, 6600 graphics. It needs a good software cleaning. Settings are all at low with 800x640 resolution. I get lots of lag on this machine, same 256k connection (pings are 160-220).

I have lots of fun playing BF2. I haven't purchased any expansions for it either. If you can find a good team the game is tons of fun. Being a lone wolf if you can't is still a good time though.

Yah, me too, me and my friend uses cells too, but I am planning to get a mic so I dont have to worry about the phone bill :)

I am running a64 3200+ / 6800Ultra, running 1280x960 everything highest except for texture ( I am still running 1 gb memory ) and 4xAA/4xAF runs smoother as heck with the latest patch. around 40-60 fps all the time.

i try not to play too much... I've been addicted to the helo lately since i've gotten every veteren badge for the classes... Got about 57 hours of helo flying time (by the time I get that vet badge i'll be ready to fly a real helo!!!).

But one thing, that I always ask my gunner, is if he can move a TV missle. I'll fly up and just hover and wait for him to shoot that sucker and make it move. You would be suprized (most of you helo pilots wouldn't) at how many people don't know that AFTER you have fired the TV missle you can keep clicking to make the missle move again - and you can keep doing it until the missle runs out of range.

It just drives me nuts at how many gunnery sergeants do not know that you can do this.


But I absolutly love BF2 - probably the best multiplayer game ever. Natural Selection (a half life mod) came close, but BF2 rules. When you get in a good squad, you can own the match unless you are playing against some good cats. One of my favorite sneak attacks is to be a squad leader, take a blackhawk up to 500 meters, then have your squad spawn on you then jump out over the airfield on Wake Island 2007. It takes a while for the enemy to figure out where the attack is coming from (since they can't see the blackhawk) and by the time they do figure it out they have to convince an adept pilot to take a f-10 up in the air to find you in the clouds.

I've never been a squad member while doing this - I guess i'm just leet at blind helo flying, but when ever I get tired of hovering @ 500 meters i'll jump out and then i'll see why people are yelling in their mic's WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Its probably the closest thing to sky diving we'll see in a long time. Well at least for me - sporting the 2005fpw *woot*
 
That is an excellent tactic and I've seen it used a few times. If you can actually get off the deck and up then it's smooth sailing to cap their airfield.

But why wouldn't you use the guns on the BH? I mean... they're so BIG and loud and fast. Oh yeah... they fire twinkies.

BF2 Special Forces is EA's attempt to make more money - and they did. Basically it adds a couple more maps, but instead of getting one gun unlock per rank you get two - and the SF guns are REALLY overpowered. So, to contend, you either have to be a badass (i've got quake1 skillz bitch) or buy SF to keep up.

Its really bad because most people who have SF play on reg battlefield maps where the regular BF2 people can't use them (unless they pick up a kit from a killed SF person)

The F2000 is probably the most overused, overpowered, and just plain lame gun in the game. Its basically a G3 (3 hits to kill anything) but has a scope, and if all that were not good enough, its got a freakin grenade launcher on it.

Then there is the SCAR-L which with you can just run circles around people spraying them with very little inaccuracy. Its not as powerful as the reg unlock, but its way more accurate, so if you have a good aim (i've got quake1 skillz bitch) then you can own whoever, unless they have quake 1 skillz.

In fact the only weapon that you can unlock that is close to being uber - elite without haveing SF is the PKM. This gun is a badass. 100 rounds, and accurate and deadly as sin. especially from long range. The only downfall is that YOU MUST be proned on the ground or else you will not hit anything. I do find it amusing when i'm a medic to come face to face with a support guy (the guy with the PKM) and then just rape them without getting hit as they try in desperation to spray at me.

Also, the other extremely overpowered weapon is the L96A1 sniper rifle. The BF2 unlock is the M95 which can kill one hit IF YOU HIT THE HEAD, but from what i've seen from picking up L96A1 kits, that sucker will kill one hit from the waist up. Pretty lame EA!!!!

Oh yea, for those of you who play BF2 and don't know about this site, you are really missing out.

they were really good before 1.21 =/

I remember playing on mushtuur city pioting the BH and it was insane.... if I had two decent gunners my screen would never stop saying "DRIVER KILL ASSIST" Now its just pointless - especially since a couple shots from an Eryx takes it down.
 
oh yea, my rig is a p4 @ 3.57 w/ 2 gigs and a x850 XT with the dell 2005fpw.

I run it at 1650x1024 or whatever... thats pretty close - pretty much never get any choppyness. This is one of those games that forces you to upgrade your computer once you are addicted.

Its pretty funny actually... If you go from 1 gig to 2 gigs, your points per minute will go up by about .5 (or at least mine did) And then its just skill to get higher... i'm almost at 2 points a minute!!! woot. And yes, while my main class is a medic, I love the G3 and PKM and G36E. And the DAO-12 is fun at times

but my favorite is the knife... one slice - TOASTY!!!!! i'm just glad I have 5 speaker surround so I can hear people about to do that to me when i'm sniping.




Oh man... i've got a great story from just the other day - it was a really close match on wake... trading off CP for about a half an hour, and then I switch squads to this guy (i was on marines) who was close to the back of the chinese airfield. Then I spawned on him to see that their battle helo was there with NO ONE near. I BOOK ASS to that sucker and he jumps in right behind me and since no one was anti-tank, we proceeded to just plain rape them. Since the points were around 30-40, it was kills that brought us the win and I think in the 3 minutes that we were flying, we killed about 20 people or so which caused us the win - we probably wouldn't have got it otherwise. Those are fun times.

The game is really fun, but they seem to fuck up more stuff every patch.

I don't think many people will be playing it a year from now, honestly. I bet they pull a SWG on this game... seriously.

Sadly I wouldn't doubt that. I do think that it'll survive because it's just so dang fun even with the bugs and goofinesses. One can only hope that the 1.3 patch (scheduled for May) will fix everything including the national debt and world hunger and those little strips that don't work on the FedEx boxes.

I should have said, "lie and mis-information". The L96 sniper rifle will NOT kill someone with 1 shot unless it's on the head. The M95 is still the most powerful sniper rifle.

True....in a way.

The M24, M95 and L96A1 all do 95 damage to human targets.

The M95 can shoot through glass and will do 190 damage against vehicles, but it does have the fat crosshairs.

The main advantage of the L96A1 is...

To quote the BF2S Wiki:

The L96A1 is apt to become the most beloved sniper rifle in the assortment. While EA/DICE tries to sell their expansions as balanced with the original game, this gun is clearly a cut above the rest. Take together the best of the M24 and M95 and you’ll end up with the L96A1. It has the same firepower as the M24 and M95, these rifles will reduce the health with 95% of a full health soldier in a single shot. On top of that, the L96A1 is together with the M24 the most accurate weapon in the game. But it overpowers the M24 because of its load time which is equal to the M95.

It was rumoured that this gun would instant kill with one shot, but this is not true. It was supposedly the case while the 1.2 patch was in beta, just like the M95 and the M24, but for obvious reasons this was changed for the official release.

While the personal preference of a sniper will decide between the L96A1 and the M24, the L96A1 is clearly a better choice than the Type 88 or SVD. The M95? Well, ain’t it fun to shoot a non-expecting pilot out of his cockpit?
