BattleField 2 Problem...

I just bought battlefield 2 tonight at walmart but I can't play it. After I installed it and download and install the latest patch for it I go to play it and the screen goes black then goes back to the desktop. What gives? What can I do to fix this? The demo worked but the full game won't?

My Computer specs:

AMD Athlon 1800+
KR7A 133 Mobo
512 Ram
GeForce FX 5900 Ultra

Something similar happened to me.

I just replaced my CRT with a LCD and added the shortcut stuff (+szx 1280 +szy 1024) but instead of running the screen goes black then crashes back to desktop.


edit: This is the error I get when I try to run it in a window.

edit 2: Nevermind, I played around with the config files and now it works. Hope someone can help you Hurley.

Not sure if this will work, but I was having a strange problem where the game wasn't working for me after I updated. For some reason is undid all the control settings. I remember that I had to delete the profile folder in my documents. Unfortunately I just reinstalled windoze, so lemme install BF2 real quick and see if I can find the directory you need to delete.

This is a graphics issue, normally to do with your refresh rate, if you have forced the refresh rate in anyway, set it back to original. if thats not the cause, update your drivers to the latest ones.

But its normally the refresh rate usually by using that external program to set it, ive forced the refresh using nvidias advanced tweaks, so it thinks its running at 60hz but is running at 75hz

Many guys in our Clan had the very same problems with GPU and Monitor problems.

Here is run down of fixes from our forums. If you have ATI based GPU download the latest driver and be sure to get drive cleaner and delete in safe mode before updating driver. same goes for Nvidia based GPU's.

So far Omega based driver will not work on BF2. Some of the refresh rate and other Rage tweaks are not recognised on BF2. If you use any refresh rate tools like refresh force. When you populate the program be sure to set your desired graphics size to one refresh rate. Example 1200X1024= 85hz, Be sure your monitor can handle the rate desired.

If you replace your monitor and have already played BF2 then be sure to make sure old driver "if you had any driver or software" is deleted and new driver loaded. One of the guys in the clan had to delete all drivers for his new flate screen and had to let the generic driver for windows run the rig. All was fixed.

BF2 does not like any extra OC tools running such as ATITool. again I would agree it has to do with the refresh rate programs.

This game is new but I am sure there are tweaks in the engine to fix refresh problems. I have not gotten in and played with it but I am sure someone out there has.

It's a resolution / refresh rate setting that isn't compatible with your monitor. Force the resolution / refresh using the Nvidia Control Panel. If you can't find the setting search google for nvidia refresh rate overide and you should be able to find a link with the reg key available.
This fixed the problem for me after switching from a CRT to an LCD...

This is odd... I posted that I was having problems over on rage3d, and this morning I look at the H and theres a link to this thread, anyways I am running atiTool, but my pc crashing ONLY occurs if I press escape to go to the menu.

ok I figured out the problem. The reason why the game kept crashing is cause when I installed the patch it never installed right because it trys to find the BF2 on your main drive that windows is installed on. Well I installed mine in my d drive since i use that drive for games so I had to reinstall it in C drive and then it worked. Hope this helps others out
