I'm starting a log on this case:

What I'm shooting for with this mod is simple, cheap, but sweet.

-Cut out the restrictive fan grills stamped in the chassis.

-Paint it military style. I was going to do the whole case in camo, but decided I'm just going to do a solid military green on the outside (ww2-ish look), maybe try a little camo design on the drive bays inside the case. I got a can of Krylon camo flat black and a couple cans of rustoleum camo "army green"

-May change the blue LED's to green in the front door.

I disassembled the case last night, here's what I was left with:

Those restrictive stamped grills are getting cut, while I'm at it, the front one's getting stuck as well.

Cut the front out, then i cut one of the back ones, waiting for my rotaries to cool down, I'm using a cordless B&D wizard, and a cordless 7 volt Dremel. They both pretty much suck, the batteries on these cordless tools tank after about 5 minutes of use.

You could sand your cuts to multi-task while waiting for your tools to cool down. Just an idea, looks like this might be quite a cool mod!

nice cuts. Good looking case Im anxious to see the finished product already. I am very glad you are cutting out those hideous and incredibly restrictive fan grills too!

this is the first time I've seen someone replace blue with green. it's usually the other way around. :)

ultra bright blue LED's are so 2002 :)

I just get tired of blue on everything, it won't go with the green IMO but we'll see.

<highjack>Heh, I got a blue zalmanHFS and changed the leds to green... the fan did not die, but it needed a kick-start to start moving (albeit slowly). Fortunatelly zalman replaced it with a plain black fan :D </highjack>

I am looking forward to see how this mod turns out.

After a prime and a light coat of green to see what it will look like.

The green is a bit light, but I think I like it, it will probably darken a bit with more paint.

Very nice.
Also Good job cutting out the fan grills!
WTH were they thinking when they made this case with fan grils like that?

P.S. I like the green!

Thanks for the kind words,

Yeah I was a bit perplexed by the fan stamps myself, for some reason I didn't notice them when I bought the case, but they were the first thing I noticed when I took the case out of the box. It felt very good hacking those bastards out.

Dont you want to remove those PCI slot covers and paint them individually?

I plan on it, I just had to see what the green looked like.

Finished, been done for a bit, but my digital busted had to wait for a replacement.

It was an easy paint and cut mod, the camo spray paint has a rough texture to it very fitting i just can't set CD's and stuff on it now.

Don't mind the computer room it's a big mess, been moving things around the house getting new carpet so it's just hell. :)

[H] love baby, represent. :) I'll try to get some better pics during daylight.
