My hard drive on my dell inspiron 9100 just fried about a month after the battery charger died. I just bought and installed a new hard drive. I am curious if the lack of a battery caused the notebook to overheat and kill the hard drive, or was it coincidental? In otherwords, is it essential for me to spend $150 on a new battery or can i run it on power from the wall for a while?

I don't think the path of least resistance between the AC input and the rest of your laptop is going to lead to the hard drive. ;)
