Battery Backup UPS question

I tried searching for this but couldnt really find anything so I came here.

I purchased an APC XS1000 Battery backup yesterday. Setup was a breeze and everything seems to be running smoothly minus one issue.

The battery does not seem to be charging at all. I can test the battery with the provided software and it passes. It even says it is charging but the % charge left is slowly dropping. I made sure the battery was seated correctly, and even followed a second setup guide from the APC forums. Im pretty sure I just need to return it, but I wanted to make sure there was no last solution I was potentially missing.

Thanks
B

Yes, I bought it yesterday from Microcenter and when I hooked it up it had about 80% charge left. I plugged everything into the Surge protector side instead of the battery backup side so I could let id charge overnight. I awoke to find it down to 30% charge and now its down to 15%. I ran all the tests that came with the software and I disconnected everything for 10 min to try and let eveything reset.

It may be still on its calibration cycle. My SmartUPS will randomly discharge itself and then recharge itself to recalibrate its meter.

Werd, I am in the process of draining it to see if it will recharge itself. I thought it may have to do something like that but I wasnt sure. Ill know soon.

Thanks
B
