Hey all,

Sorry if this is not the right place to post about Battery Backups! Was not sure where to post it.

I basically know nothing about them and need some help. I am going between these two different brands...

APC BX900R - 900VA
APC BX1300LCD - 1300VA
Geek Squad - GS-1285U

I currently have an APC - 385 Watt Battery Backup now... and I hate it, mostly because it beeps at me all the time and shuts everything down often. Probably because I am not smart enough to get one to power my whole system, hahaha ;)

Anyhow, I get a nice discount on all of these because of where I work. The Geek Squad is the cheapest, but I want to make sure I am spending my money wisely!

Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!

VA is sort of apparent power measurement that is effected by power factor. That 1300W APC will be able to supply somewhere around 800ish W I think. And the 900VA around 500-600ish W.

I would personally stay away from something totally generic like the Geek Squad one... APC has a good reputation.

I have the APC BX900R, which is rated at 500 watts, and it works beautifully. Most times I am only drawing 123 watts and at max 180 watts with my AMD 5000BE OC'ed and an ATI 2600.

The GeekSquad unit is made by cyber power. I have the one taht is the step below and it has been very good for my system. It even logs any power outages/fluctuations and lets you know how much power you are pulling.
