has anyone tried "Bastion" out yet? From what I've read, its a pretty dope game and I am definitely interested in giving it a go. but I figured I would ask around here and get some opinions first.

also, can anyone recommend any other games that are of the same style as bastion. I love the old school RPG style games and would like to findout if there are any more new ones out

I thought it was great; enjoyed the game play and had the music stuck in my head for days. I played through it twice, right in a row, to complete my character and make a few different choices. Some people thought that the narrator got a little old but he never bugged me. I think, for the price, its essentially a must-play.

Bought it and finished it in one sitting. Very short game but very high quality.

"Yet", Bastion is basically old when it comes to indie games, it's been released in August 2011 for PC. See: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1627362

I played it for 2 hours and got sidetracked by other games. Will probably go back sometime and finish it.

Chantelise - A Tale of Two Sisters and Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale come to mind, didn't play either of them yet though.

Bastion is a great game, the game may be SHORT, but the story is incredible, on par with AAA titles, if not, waaaaay better.

Great game, enjoyed the music and style of the game. Fun level design and twists in the plot and challenges.

I'd recommend it to anyone.

Cheers

It is an outstanding game in my opinion. I don't usually play a single player game multiple times but i did with this one.

Great game - in terms of presentation it is stellar. The story and gameplay are also pretty good.
But - I don't like all the meaningless choices you are given - such as: which 2 weapons to use and which to upgrade, where to go, what to construct next, etc - because the game and maps are essentially linear. You even have to choose between a bunch of stuff to ramp up difficulty for an actual challenge - counter-intuitive, in my opinion. Only in the very end, will you make a couple of crucial choices, and by that time, crucial choices seemed foreign to me.

I won't call the game pretentious, 'cause it is truly lives up to expectations - however, I feel that the constant pretense of choice, feel superficial and unnecessary in this solid linear game.

I thought it was fun, and definitely worth the Steam sale price (I think I paid $6.74 or something like that). I don't know if I'd pay full price for it though.

Bought the game last Steam's sale. Not finished yet but really enjoyed the time I spent.

I also bought the soundtrack which is pretty sweet. I also like the fact that the narrator comment ALL you do

Another vote for "YOU BUY!!! YOU BUY NOW!!!" Exceedingly good game. I'd say it is like Legend of Zelda on acid :). Graphics are great music is out-fucking-standing (I bought the soundtrack) game play is fun old school hack n' slash and the story is cool not only in what it is but how it is told.

Enjoyed the hell out of it.

I got sidetracked. As much as I liked the art, I disliked the world. Everything floating around in the air.. with things popping up as you walk.. just ALL THE TIME. To me, it felt like the arcane sanctuary in Diablo 2. But.. for the whole game. (AFAIK)

I found it to be pretty boring tbh. Sure the graphics and sound were great, but the actual gameplay itself was pretty mediocre.

It's good. My favorite part is the ability to completely customize the difficulty. There's 10 different modifiers (idols) that you can activate to take the game from easy as pie to tough as nails. You can use them in any combination. Some people complained about the game being too easy, but I'd like to see those same people beat Stranger's Dream with all 10 idols (still haven't been able to pull it off yet, but I've gotten close.)

I got it for $5 in a Steam sale, and it was money well spent. I think the $20 regular price is maybe a little steep. It's a no-brainer for $10 or less if you like this kind of game.

It's $15 not $20. I bought it when it was on a steam sale and still haven't gotten around to playing it. I am overloaded with indie titles I haven't played.
