Hello,

It is time to retire the XFX GTX 260 in my main rig. I have not played a game in 4-5+ years now. All it is doing is generating heat and wasting electricity.

What is a good low power consumption card these days? I need dual DVI ports as I run dual monitors. Maximum budget is $50 shipped, I will probably wait around for a good rebate deal/used forum.

Thanks!

You can get a GT610 or 630 for less than $50 with dual dvi. Zotac even makes a fanless 610 for less than $40 (at newegg). 610 has a TDP of 29W and the 630 has a TDP of 65W. Both should be sub 10W on idle and probably not much more in normal desktop apps. If you are not gaming, either would be fine, IMO.

I just found an AMD 5450 card sitting in storage. It is brand new.

It has 1x DVI and 1x HDMI. If I get HDMI to DVI adapter... would there be any loss in PQ on my monitor? If not maybe I will just use that.

There shouldn't be, they both carry a digital signal. There can be issues if the cable is too long or damaged though.

No. I run twin displays on my Mac mini, one DVI, one HDMI and they look and behave identical.
