I'm creating an Opteron system and I'm looking to overclock the processor and get nice fast ram. I've read through the stickies, but they seem to be confusing. The [H] one mentions how an A64 has a built in memory controller, but then the whole article seems to be written for Intel people as it doens't make mention of this again. The other was written around the time of XP processors, so it wasn't applicable.
Basically, I'm wondering how fast my ram will run if I overclock the Opteron. Does the RAM stay at the same speed and I just make the CPU go faster? That seems to be my impression. If that is the case, what sort of ram should I get? Am I better off with PC3200 Cas 2 ram or faster ram running at a higher Cas rating? I want to order something today so please let me know your input.
