basic home network security ... would you put an IP camera up?

Does not really matter who or what it's for, isn't the highest possible (within one's budget/knowledge) security something all should strive for?

There is "being prepared" and then there is "being prepared" I'm honestly not really trying to knock on you.

But for most a decent IP IR camera pointed near the drive about 10 feet off the ground is sufficient enough. There are more effective ways at thwarting a burgler. Like an NRA sticker in your window, or a beware of dog sign, or a well lit entrance. Everything else is covered by insurance. You could invest $1500 in a high quality camera system (multi camera, Nightime, high res, DVR, power backup). Then add professional mounting + wiring. Those IR camera models have to be replaced every couple years too as the IR LEDs dim with usage. But considering your insurance deductible might be $1000, it would be cheaper to pay out the insurance company. Like I said if somebody wants into your house bad enough, camera security isn't going to stop them. Look how many celebs have problems with stalkers hopping fences and just walking in?
