hey guys i bought a NZXT case it's great but it sounds like a bus when i turn it on, due to the 6 fans. the cpu heat sink and GPU card are really quite. so i am looking to purchase quieter fans.

here comes the dumb questions

when they say a fan is 120mm or 80mm what is the measurement? is it length of the side? or is it the length from a corner going 45degrees up to another corner? i gotta do some measurement before i buy fans right? lol

and any suggestions on quite fans?
 
I've always used the low-speed Yate Loons.
Great price as long as you buy several to save on shipping and I can't hear em at all unless I stick my head in the case.

Just realized you mentioned you have an NZXT case/fans.
I don't know if my NZXT Beta Evo's stock fan is the same as your's but for reference I've found the Yate Loon slightly quieter.
And your manual should mention what size fans your vents accommodate. All of mine are 120mm.

When they say 120, they are referring to the diameter of the fan. Which also usually corresponds to the length of a side.

Fan design is standardized. If a fan is 120mm, it will fit in a 120mm vent. From any manufacturer. Any manufacturer that does not follow that design is out of business, because that fan will not fit in any case.
