Just wondering, I've been outta the computer scene for about a year and a half and wow... a lot has changed. 939, 754, FX, LG775, a lotta new lingo to catch up on :eek:

Anyways, my questions is are the Barton 2500+ Multiplier locked now? Or are they just as oc'able?
 
the new regular Barton's are locked but the mobile bartons are unlocked (or so I've heard)

Damn :( Any problems if I just pick up a Mobile Barton and put it into a nForce2 Board? The mobiles are exactly the same except they're "cream of the crop" per say to help run at lower voltages and achieve the same clock speed right?
 
If you have an nForce2 mobo, it will more than likely allow a regular barton to be unlocked. My brothers 2500+ on Asus A7N8X (which I built) is unlocked...but I don't think the VIA chipsets allow it.

not true, the newer bartons (i cant remember what week) will not be unlocked on any motherboard, even if its an nforce2 chipset. Your best bet would be to get a mobile AXP and overclock it, they will work like normal chips in ur system
 
additionaly... pin mods.. bridge mods..etc.. will not work after week 44(i think its 44) theres absolutely no way to modify the multiplyer...

well.. there is a mod some insane ppl did... how you feel dremmeling a cpu... other then that.. impoccible

Of course all of this can be solved if I buy the Mobile version of the Barton 2500+ XP right?
 
Yes, the mobiles are unlocked, and they have the added advantage of generally being "better", because they passed testing at lower voltages, so they generally can overclock to higher levels once you bring the juice up. Look for a 35 watt mobile, people are getting them to ~2.3 on air and ~2.5 on water, from what people have been posting here. I just got my new 35 watt mobile yesterday, I'll let you know what I get with my water setup.

Sounds good, how do I tell whether it's a 35 Watt mobile? and what kind of stepping and production week am I looking at now?
 
2400 2500 and 2600 mobiles are good overclockers.. i have hered a lot about ppl getting 2600 mobiles and some 2500 mobiles to 2.5- 2.7
 
mobiles are meant for laptops.. you can only buy them oem... newegg sells them
