barton 2500+ system

Just to let you know, your Barton may be locked. There is a certain week after which they are locked (mine is week 41 and it is locked).

my bad, works for me, but maybe that's just my login. Let me just list everything:
amd barton 2500+
A7N8X mobo
SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9600XT Video Card
3x KINGWIN 80mm Ball Bearing Case Fan (plus one more included w/ the case)
Antec 480W Power Supply "true blue"
2x geil golden dragen 256mg pc3200 sticks
SAMSUNG 160GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive
Logitech Deluxe Desktop (Deluxe Keyboard & S69 Mouse
Lite On 52X CD-ROM,
SONY Beige 52x32x52 IDE Internal CD-RW Drive,
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 PCI Sound Card
Thermalright SLK-947U Copper Heatsink for both Intel and Amd,Retail.
DCT OG-1050 2.1 Multimedia Speakers Retail

A CD-ROM?? They still MAKE those?!

Seriously though, why are you buying a CDROM? A DVD-ROM is probably only a few dollars more, and will read CDs at the same rate. (Your burner would, too)

So should my system be good for 3200+?? Even if you don't have any suggestions, post something that says I'm ok, 'cuz i'm a complete newbie and this is my first computer that I'll be building myself and I'm a little nervous.

If your processor is locked you are not able to overclock it at all.

That's not completely accurate, you can still fsb overclock it, you just cant change the multiplier. It's still OCed, incidentally there is a way to make your barton look like a mobile cpu using jumpers, thus making it unlocked. I read about it somewhere on here, but don't know the exact linkage.

Bologna. You can still increase the FSB independent of whether the multiplier is locked or not.

To answer the original question, overclocking is always a crapshoot, however running your Barton 2500+ at 3200+ speeds shouldn't be too difficult. If you get unlucky, then it's possible you will not quite get there, but to be honest, it should be no problem.

Lets put it this way, it was so easy to overclock a barton 2500 to 3200 speeds that it was boring.

11x166 --> 11x200 maybe a 0-.2v more and you are set.

Cleanslate, the xp to mobile xp mod only works in software and on certain boards.

If you've never built a computer before, the main things you're gonna need to watch for as ESD (static discharge) and installing the heatsink.

Im not sure if the slk comes with a fan or not. Last time i check they didnt. you may wanna double check that. Its also a bit on the pricey side, for that you can get something real decent.

(if one of those 80mm fans is for the heatsink then scratch that last comment.)

Also make sure to install the copper standoffs in the case. Youll need to install the powersupply in the case also, and hookup the leds and such.

I remember my first time, it was pretty daunting, i actually started to personally assemble them the first couple of times, then chickened out and took them to a friend or pc store.

Hardest part about the first couple times: Didnt know enough to fully explain a problem i had run into. So they ended up with a "what?".

Easy way: Take it to a local store/friend. Watch them assemble it so you know the procedure next time. Its not hard once you do it, but the first time can be a pain. Its worth spending 40 bucks at a local pc store instead of having to rma a proc thats not covered under warrenty because you chiped a core.

Not true, you can only play with your FSB
I have mine running at 200mhz (400ddr) and it clocks at 3200+

Get good ram and a mobo that suports 400mhz fsb, and a good HSF and you will be cruzin.

(the 2500+ is a 333mhz fsb chip, i got 400mhz rated ram (3200) and told the prossesor to run at 400mhz, the only thing that is actualy OCed in my sys is the CPU, rock solid stable
