Is there any way I could buy a card, preferrably NVIDIA, with no heatsinks, or ramsinks, or fans on it? Why? Because I think I can do a better job cooling it than most of the companies out there. Just wondering.

You can buy my Radeon 9600 Pro, it currently is completely bare!

It doesn't work, but I can let it go for $175 ;)

That was one recommendation to BFG when they asked users for requests. I don't know that they ever did start selling them without heatsinks...

If anyone plugged the card in without cooling and fried it, BFG could get burned legally. It is best for the manufacturers to depend on you to modify the card. Your risk, your ass on the line. If you modify it from the original, you have no grounds if the part fails.

If they ship it without HS, there really is no way to prove that you purchased a bum card if it dies prematurely. It opens that whole user error thing...

Couldn't they put big warnings all over the package, make the packaging ugly, and then put another document saying that they aren't liable, taped to the card itself? I'm sure that would cover themselves in court.

The other thing is that there's such a small market for bare cards that it's probably not worth the time to even bother producing them.

Besides, GPU HSFs are cheap & anyone who's qualified to put one on properly should have no problem taking the old one off...
