I feel like Foresters need a buff. Can have it filed with four workers and just set to cut, but they only get 70 wood a year? My biggest issue is the stupid firewood.

Really wish sometimes it could be not so dependent on the food stuff/firewood and just let me focus on building more.

You could try having them on plant only for 2-3 years then cut everything, rinse, repeat, should give you a decent amount of woods if you have a few of them running.

This game makes me want to give your citizens small pox-infected-blankets.

I love the tornado and the trading post ( in the video ).

I went with 3 Foresters and 3 Woodcutters. Set them to seed and cut and the woodcutters max to like 2000 or so. I think my town is around 150 people and the wood situation was stable. I probably had 11-14 people set to Forestry.

So about this Market, is it only for expanding our town or do we have to build one in the main village area as well?

I thought it was only for expansion, so I build one a distance away from the warehouse where I plan on building more homes, however, the market is now hogging all my firewood. Wouldn't this be a problem for those who lives in the main area.

It's used so people aren't hoarding stuff in their houses, it also balances their diets so they are healthier, anyway that's how I understand it :p

You can also play w/o creating markets at all. I've created several 300+ populations with no markets. Firewood is a highly demanded product. If you see the market is hogging it, you can always increase your firewood production in the area that is getting theirs taken. Since I use firewood for trading, I always mass produce it.

They do serve a purpose, though. They act as a centralized place for people to get goods, instead of needing to run to a number of barns or stockpiles. This keeps the people from needlessly running around., which in turn, allows them to be more efficient. Workers drop off their wares to the closest barn, and the market workers pick it up and take it to the market.

Do you need them everwhere? No. Should you have them in your largest population areas? Yes, for the reasons I stated above. If your settlement is decentralized, you may not need any. If you have larger, centralized areas (possibly not desirable due to disasters, but it does make some things easier), then markets can help increase efficiency.

I've found putting two foresters next to one another, and setting one to just cut, and the other to plant works out better. Maybe it ends up the same, but seems to work a little better. It's hard to get an exact comparison.

Just wait for the mod tools to be released. New buildings, new animals, new production chains, smarter people... It should make things pretty damn amazing.

Seems like we have to constantly add new homes to ensure the people continue to reproduce at a rate enough to avoid a drop in population. Freaking old people hogging all the houses :p

Heheh that's like how Japan is now.

Barns and stock piles are (in my opinion) point of production storage, they allow people working the production buildings to quickly deposit their goods nearby and get back to work.

Markets are point of consumption buildings, they gather resources from far and wide from the stock piles and barns and put them in one common spot. This way any building in their service area only makes 1 trip to get all of their needs satisfied.

Effectively you're trading workers, for efficiency and range. A few people spend all their time going all over town moving goods from barns/stock piles to markets, but everyone else can deposit their goods or meet their needs from nearby sources.

This is true. Someone on the game forum did a test. He created a self sufficient settlement with 20 houses, and then just let time fly by. It was interesting to watch the population pretty much follow a pattern of going up and then down.

I am a firm believer in markets, but one thing that I don't know, is will they pick up stuff outside their area, or just inside their aura?

Good tips! Someone put up a town of 4k people, 100% sustainable and they don't have a single field to grow their own crops. They buy all their food with one of the 60+ trading ports.

Someone also created a scenario where you only have 2 people (1 male, 1 female). I plan on playing that when I have the time. Sadly, I haven't been able to play this much.

Started a new town today. I love the name it gave it.

Purchased this last night, will play it tonight possibly.

I started playing this over the weekend. Good game to waste many an hour.

I learned a few things like to have extra empty pasture to move your animals to in case of disease in a pasture. Placement of crops is everything for requiring the fewest number of farmers needed.

I think i was on year 46 with a huge stock pile of food and 100 people. 30 of them were farmers.

Life is Feudal Forest Village now available. Looks almost like a updated version of Banished.

I picked up Forest Village awhile back, but haven't gotten around to playing it. Is it still in EA or did they do a full release?
