I'm going to be buying a new rig...and was wondering if anyone had experiences with either of these two new builders. I've been able to read a couple of reviews about Origin, very little about Ballistic. I'd appreciate any thoughts or comments you'd care to share.

It's not JUST a matter or price..it's the quality of the build and the reputation of the builder..that's where I'm seeking some advice.

It's hard to say when neither of them have been around long enough to generate any customer feedback. Then again, the builder I chose,Max Force, hadn't been around long when I got my system. But they at least had enough reviews for me to see a pattern of quality work and positive customer response. You could compare the length and terms of their warranties, maybe contact each of them and see how they respond to customer's questions.

Yeah, get inquisitive as shit on their forums(if they have any) and see how patient they are. Ask lots of questions.

As michael said, compare their warranties.

Is there nothing on Reseller Ratings?

And check their prices against other boutiques like Puget, Maingear, Max Force, AVA etc...

Their website is slick.

Their prices are pretty good but I only spent less than 5 minutes on their configurator. Seem to have some customization ability.

Have not checked RR yet. Didn't see any forums though.
Think I will add them to the list of boutiques I am looking at.

If you decide to go with them, please let us know how things turn out.

Built a PC on the Origin site just for fun...

Product Subtotal: $15,291.00 !!!!

Origin is run by three guys who used to be with Alienware...I guess they are building on the same business model.

For $15k what did you have in it?

I thought I read somewhere that Ballistic was a sub of Digital Storm. Anybody else heard that?

And there pricing is great..but they don't answer ANY inquiries. After several e-mails to them I gave up...if they won't respond to communications to them during the sales process, what would they do AFTER they have your money?

Yea I noticed that also, it's almost as if it's a dummy site or a test bed setup, no way to contact them at all. On the Digital Storm forums a while ago, there was some discussion about that also, and I don't recall if Sarah or anyone ever replied to it either.

Origin is a mixture of some Alienware folks, as well as Fatal1ty. He and the Alienware guys created Origin Computers as a joint venture. You will notice all of the publicity Fatal1ty gives them... Because it's partially his company.

I actually looked into buying my next computer from them, but I didn't because I, as well, wasn't sure of their build quality and support. I saw Fatal1ty at QuakeCon 3 years ago and he was wasted in a drunken stuper the whole time. Not a good role model for others, especially upcoming gamers. Anyways, I went with Alienware because of Dell's great support and overnight service on everything I ordered.

Good luck with your new build.

Why not just go with a tried and true company like Maingear? Their new system is flat out clean and powerful looking. It apparently does the job too from all the reviews I've seen. I doubt anyone can touch they're reseller rating! I did a little review of mine a couple of years ago and its still alive and kickin strong! Couldnt be happier with it.

Negative, Fatal1ty's name is nothing more than a bought and paid for endorsement. He had nothing to do with the formation of the company or the design of the systems.
