Hello,
well I just reformatted my computer and I was installing the necessities (mobo cd, video card driver, etc.) and all of a sudden my computer restarted and it kept restarting. I would reach my desktop for about two seconds and it would restart again. I've tried formatting again but it does the same thing. I'm really baffled about this, someone please help :-(

my specs are:
P4 2.8c
ASUS P4P800
radeon 9600xt
corsair xms ram 256x2
 
Some questions:

1. Was there any message/error given before the restart?
2. How long from the time windows boots till it restarts, does it differ each time?
3. Does it restart or off?
 
Might it be Sasser or Blaster? Try getting the important updates and service pack onto a CD and install that before going on the 'net...

it is a virus that restarts your computer, but as far as I know, both the worms show a window that counts down till it restarts and they don't act as fast as you are telling us...hmm...

I was thinking a power supply problem but if it is rebooting at the exact same time everytime then I doubt it has to do with the ps...
 
I don't think the virus thing is that far off base. Try not having it connected to the Internet during install or while you're doing the drivers.

Also, make sure that before you start doing drivers, etc... install a virus scan... and if you possibly can, update it before you start installing all this other stuff.

Of course we don't know if the guy is pirating anything... perhaps his copy of Windows is riddled with virii... No offense, just thinking out loud.

Try testing the RAM. Might be a problem there, if you can get Memtest86 and let it run.
