Recently get a rare and random Bad_Pool_Caller BSOD and have to reboot. Yes, I looked up this error and tested my ram and my ram is good. Thing is it only happens when IE is open so it is related to IE but not sure what to check for next. Any ideas?

I guess I could try different Nvidia video driver but doubt that is it. Last time it happened was just fifteen minutes ago. I was installing latest flash update for Firefox and at the end of the install flash installer always opens your browser to make sure flash is installed correctly, but because the flash installer is stupid and just opens your default browser instead of the one you installed flash for it opened IE instead of Firefox and that caused a Bad_Pool_Caller error.

This is on Win8.1.

It could be the video driver. HW acceleration. Would be first on my todo list.

Perhaps you should ditch using IE like the rest of the world? :D

It is set as my default browser only because it works with Battlefield4 and other browsers I had issues with. I actually use Firefox mostly. IE is only used on trusted sites anyway. Maybe hardware acceleration is it, I'll look into it, thx.

If BF4 requires IE ditch that too! I only played the beta and I recall having minor problems with firefox but nothing severe.

I use both Chrome and Firefox with BF4 no worries whatsoever.

I haven't used IE for about 10 years now....

I set Firefox to secure settings that are too secure to use with BF4. If you set IE to protected mode it won't work with BF4 either. In Firefox I also use noscript and other security tools so I leave IE barebones so there are no such issues that might arise. If I go to a site that won't work in Firefox due to my settings then I copy the url and use IE. There is nothing inherently wrong with IE and this is about bad_pool_caller error and not about what browser I use to play a game with. And no, I won't be ditching BF4 any time soon either. because it is one of my favourite games.

So, make a security exception to firefox for the BF4 site and your problem is gone. You can be relieved of using IE.

Yes, but I would rather figure out why I am getting a rare and random bad_pool_caller error. I have disabled hardware acceleration in IE and will see if it happens again or not.

Either the GPU is dying, you have a bad GPU driver [happens], or bad RAM.

Test the first with memtest86+.

I already tested the ram and my video card is not dying. I can play BF4 for hours on end with no issues. Like I said, only common thing I have seen is that it happens when IE opens. I haven't had it happen since posting this thread so will keep an eye on it.
