Bad with calculating power needs - looking for advice

So I was linked to http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine to calculate my power needs.
I'm planning on going with a 280GTX video card, Asus P5Q Deluxe, and an Intel Q9450 processor. 4GB of RAM(2x2GB), and the calculator recommended that I get a PSU with at least 825W of power. I haven't really seriously kept tabs on parts in a year or two. Are machines really needing this level of power nowadays?

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

280GTX takes a peak wattage of 236W according to guru3d.

Should be able to power the setup with a newer, decent 500-600 watt unit.
