Bad tuner or reception?

Hi all,

Just got my htpc setup...running very nice thanks to all the advice I've read here on the forum! I have a Hauppage PVR-500 in there right now with Media Center 2005 running on it, and I'm just having one problem: two of the channels have bad to very bad reception. The channels are next to each other (4 and 5) and when I watch 4, another channel is bleeding into it (either 3 or 5 I can't tell which yet). The problem with channel 5 is that the reception is REALLY terrible, even worse than 4. Channel 5 is basically like if I were watching showtime or some channel I don't get that is scrambled out.

I was curious if this was a cable issue, and ended up plugging the cable straight back into the TV, and the TV can pick it up fine. So that tells me that one or both of the tuners on the card are not locking onto the "center" of the signal.

That raises the question: Is there somewhere (either in the media center software or the tuner card driver) where I can modify the frequency settings manually for those two channels to see if I can get them to come in better? Or are there other programs that I could run to try and fix this? Or do I just need to RMA the card because it has a bad tuner?

Thanks in advance!

I've never used MCE so i'm not sure about that software. Most PVR software has a channel tuner that you can change the frequency if a channel isn't coming in correctly to fine tune it. Try the green button, they have lots of useful info.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try cross-posting there.

Anyone else with any ideas/pointers/URLs?
