Bad Transfer speeds

I have a small home network and do large over network transfers all the time, But for some reason i only get 5000-kb/s transfer speeds. I have a linksys gig switch and gig NICs in all of my pcs , my router is a cisco 831 soho unit. All of the cables are either belkin cat 6 or ones i made out of cat 6 with cat 6 ends. They all are tested and well to cat 6 spec. I know i will only get 100 meg speeds because of my router but 5 meg? Um... What ? What could the problem be? Any ideas?

60MB/s is about the max transfer rate of a modern single IDE (PATA or SATA) hard drive.
Maybe thats what is imposing the limit on your transfer rate?

Are the transfers going over the internet? How are you measuring the speed?

5000 kb/s = 5000 * 10^3 b/s = 5 * 10^6 b/s = 5 Mb/s

5 Mb/s is good for typical internet, but poor for local gigabit.

is this the speed you get from any host to any host, or from one in particular to one specific other?

what speed does windows say the interfaces are connected at? i have 1 10bT device on my lan, but all my other devices are running/transferring at 100mbit.
