Bad SSD after Ivy-E and bios update?

Upgraded my streaming PC with the new 4960x and had to update my Asus P9X79 DELUXE. Had some new 2400mhz Ram to go along with it.

Everything booted flawlessly. Easy OC to 4.4ghz. Then the boot problems. Put PC back to stock and still got these following issues.

Next day pc won't boot. Terrible bsod code saying boot loader is toast. Can't even get into safe mode or windows repair. Come back to pc hours later and it boots fine.

Next next day pc locks up, but not in the typical overclocking sense. HD light stuck on. Mouse is fine along with streaming to twitch.tv, but I couldn't right click or really make the pc do anything. But 1080p stream still going strong.

Put Sandy-E and old ram back and still get these boot/windows issues.

Bad Samsung 840 pro that's 2 months old at the same time as this upgrade??

tldr: Ivy-e + 2400mhz ram + bios update
boot loader error > pc locks up with HD light on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=hpxdvq48iOo#t=72
problems come and go randomly
put sandy-e and ram back to before
issues still here.

What type of power supply are you using? I've experienced the system locking up and thought it was a hard drive issue myself on two occasions. It would usually freeze by the time the password screen would come up, the only difference I noticed is sometimes my restore would actually work but it did not solve the freezing issue.

Interesting point. Can it be that the lower load of the CPU is causing the 12V rail to go out of spec?

Lower load? I can't see how. A quality PSU has load from 0.1 A, and there is a lot of stuff on MB that takes energy anyway.

I was considering the supply as faulty / failing and only operating close to spec at the the load of the previous processor with the new CPU changing the load pushing it out of spec.

yea. (I miss read) I ran into this issue over clocking my friend's I7 3770k on a shitty psu as well...the damage was done though and i had to get him a replacement.

Edit: DisposableHero, do you have a secondary psu you can test? it seems very similar to what happened to me with the mouse having free movement and the lights all being on but the OS was unresponsive.

Not sure as I'm not home right now but it should be a 700 watt ocz.

Again I have everything back to where it was except for that bios update.

Crashes within a few hours of being turned on then it's fine. Can stream with 80%+ usage all day after.

Actually OP decreased power load, as he added Ivy-E instead of old CPU.

I wouldn't trust the *Xstream power supplies.

HardOCP reviewed the OCZ 700w ModXStream and it failed

there's also the GameXStream 700w (mediocre performance score @ JonnyGURU) and the StealthXStream 700w but i'm pretty it isn't of much quality either.

You have some pretty sweet hardware there... i wouldn't give my components power from an OCZ *Xstream PSU. In other words, replace your PSU ASAP.
