Alright I have 1 512MB stick of Kingston HyperX PC3200 and 2 sticks of 256MB, same brand. The 512MB is in slot 1 with the 256MBs in slot 2 and 3. They BIOS reports them operating in dual channel mode.

Now my problem is all my games CTD with an error message usually less than a minute into the game after I installed the 512MB stick into slot 1.

Before this I had BSODs that said PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and it reported it was cause by win32k.sys. I fixed this by just reseating the RAM.

What is the problem here, Windows or the RAM? And is there any way I can fix it, if it is the RAM?

Note that with the 256MBs in slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 3 run fine.

could just be a fussy motherboard, i know some brands get really unhappy when you run dual channel with different (make/amount)sticks of ram. my advise is exchange the two 256 sticks for a 512 stick if you can

I placed the 512 in slot 2 and the 256s in slots 1 and 3.

So far its ok. Usually KotOR would crash a few second ater loading a game or going to the new character screen, but it didn't so far. Then again I was only 30 seconds into creating a new character and 20 seconds of gameplay, but the crash was usually instant after a load.

If this does not work I will try to get another 512, but money is tight right now for me.

Damn problem started back up again. I was playing Planetside and I got 3 CTDs during gameplay.

Then KotOR CTD'ed after 15 mins of play.

Anyone got some tips or anything that could fix my problem? I probably won't get more memory for awhile. I also tried bumping the voltage to 2.7 and 2.9.

EDIT: Screw it I just ordered another stick of 512MB, anyone happen to know for sure if 2x 512MB and 1x 256MB would work in dual channel?

I mean the two 512MBs should be read as one channel(when placed in slots 1 and 3/2 and 3) and the 256 as another correct?

I kinda want to have that extra 256MB as I hear Planetside takes up to 1.3GB of RAM and I want to keep HD thrashing to a minimum.

just use the two 512's in dual mode, forget the 256, 1G is enough for todays games

...fire off an overnight run of Memtest86 and you tell us..... Anytime I install memory, or even move it around in the slots, I always sanity check it with a Memtest86 run. It isn't perfect, but it's damn good.

Yes, there is. A new stick of Mushkin Level 2 Enhanced DDR would take care of the memory issues without fail....:D OK, kidding aside, you could move the memory around, slot wise, or try relaxed timings, or up the DIMM Vcc, or a combination of all of them. Again, Memtest86 is a pretty decent way to tell if you have a solid memory subsystem after any changes you make.

Good Luck - B.B.S.

the only way you are going to get more than 1Gb in dual channel mode on an amd mobo is if you use 2 1Gb sticks of memory. you should know that in order to run in dual mode on any board, you have to have the same amount of ram on each channel. dimms 1 & 2 are channel 1 while dimm 3 is channel 2. so you'll have to stick with a gig for dual mode. just get another stick of 512 if your adament about having enough ram for planetside, so you have 1.5Gb of ram. if you read enough reviews, you'll find that dual channel on an amd mobo practically does squat for preformance.

NM, post BALEETED

I thought 3x512 would work but that would be 1GB on 1st channel, 512 on 2nd.

just go with 2 x 512, i havnt heard of anybody complaining that it's not enough and it'll give you a more stable system that'll more than likely overclock better

I can't tun memtest86, I don't have a floppy drive and it request a diskette so thats that.

Look on the memtest site, there is an ISO that you can download and burn to make a bootable CD-ROM.

I swapped the 512MB to slot 1 and got near instant crashes in my games after I start them.

I'm guessing that if I start off with the 512MB in slot 1 it gets accessed first and crashes, and with it in channel 2 after the 2x256s are filled it crashes when it gets to the 512.

I'm going to try single channel with 1x512MB, if it crashes I'm calling Kingston.

UPDATE: Tried 1x512, instantly crashed after I clicked new game in KotOR, like I expected.

This module is defective and I am going to contact Kingston.
