I've got a 680i sli bfg board with x6800 core 2 extreme and 2x2gb gskill. If i put both sticks of ram in the board the board will beep and stop at detecting memory. If i use one stick the board will lock at some point during the boot process. In the beginning both sticks by themselves would be able to at least post then finally one stick just stopped working completely and now just the one stick will just randomly lock. At one point, with one stick, i was able to boot the windows installer, format my new drive but when it rebooted the system just locked.
Does this sound like bad ram? I'm going to borrow some ram from somebody to try out before i do an rma, any other ideas before i rma the ram? Thanks

i've tried the other ram slots with no luck. I'm going to borrow some ram to see if it fixes the issue, if not i'm going to have to rma the board.

memory controller is fried. RMA it.
I've had this issue. They eventually refuse to run dual channel in the proper dimms and can only run 1 stick at a time.
