I built a computer, 2400+ and a Epox mobo. Everything runs fine... but when the system is under high load (cpu and/or hard drive), the fans would change its pitch (sound). I am wondering if the PSU can not handle that load, and it's have a difficult time powering the system. Everything on that system runs fine, just wondering if the problem should be corrected with a new psu?

Does the pitch get higher? If so, perhaps there is some automatic setting that is speeding the fans UP when your com is under load.

My HTPC does this... the mobo i'm using derives its Vcore from 5V instead of 12V.

When the CPU load goes up, the 5V rail dips from the extra load. The power supply brings up its duty cycle to compensate and the 12V rail goes up, making an audible increase in fan noise.

The actual change on the 12V line isn't a lot (a few percent) so it's nothing to worry about in my case, but I'd get a multimeter and measure the 12V line under no load and full load to make sure everything's within safe limits...
