Bad Power Supply?

I've ran into a problem with my computer. I was gaming as usual, not doing anything special. All of a sudden, my computer just shuts down extremely fast. I thought "maybe we lost electricity," but the monitor was still on and my bedroom light remained on. I tried to turn the computer back on, but it turned on for less then a second and then immediately shut off. I have a Corsair CX430 power supply. I'm not sure if this is a CPU or Power Supply problem. My CPU has a fairly hefty overclock on it, so that might be the cause of the problem. The particular computers specs are in my sig. What makes me believe that this is a power supply issue is that I have booted a computer with a dead CPU, and all the fans would run and all the lights would turn on and run until powered off. In my current situation, the computer immediately turns off the moment I turn it on. Does anybody have any opinions or suggestions on what to do?

PS - I might have a spare power supply to check with, which I will try tomorrow.

You can do a basic check to see if your PSU is operational using this method if you so wish. Be careful.

Good luck!

Well I followed the above post (I can't believe I didn't think of that either, I have done that method before...) and the same thing happened. So my power supply is dead.

Does anybody have some suggestions for a new power supply? I'm looking in the $50-$60 range, I can go a bit higher if I need to. I can't believe that I had a Corsair power supply die on me!

Wait, so you disconnected everything, connected only a fan or two, and jumped the green motherboard wire with a black one, and the fans turned on for a second then turned off? If so, it's most likely the power supply. But power cycling (in my experience) generally means motherboard problems.

The power supply is probably blown out. My graphics card isn't overclocked but my CPU runs at 3.8 ghz. It isn't unlocked though, it actually has bad silicon. It has been running fine for months, but I guess running overclocked all the time caused it to die out.

Anywho, thanks for all the input guys!

Well I'll be able to RMA the power supply to Corsair. I should still look into getting a new one however.
