I'm having some trouble with my computer and was hoping maybe somebody here might be able to give a suggestion. I think the problem may be with my motherboard but I'm not really sure what's wrong.
Here's the deal:
I went to my parent's house over the holiday break. When I left my apartment to go to their house, I shut down my computer but did not unplug it. I came back three weeks later and it would not turn on. It is a Dell desktop about two years old. All it would do was blink an amber light about twice a second. It would not turn on at all.
So I figured maybe the power supply or mobo went bad since it wouldn't power on. First thing I did was open the case and try a different power supply, including different power wire. That didn't work. Then I unplugged everything attached to the mobo and reseated everything, including RAM, drives, etc. Still didn't work. Then in a last ditch effort, I did something random and removed the CMOS battery from the mobo and the computer started right up without the battery.
At this point, I assumed that the battery was the problem so I replaced it with a brand new battery but the computer is still not turning on with the battery in, only with it out. Does anyone have any suggestions on what you think might be broken or what I can to do to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance.
