I just bought:
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
A64 3500+ Socket 939
Corsair 2x512 DDR400
ATI Radeon x800xl
Antec NEOPOWER
2x WD Raptor 74
I put them together and when I turn the power on, the fans spin and the lights turn on but nothing happens.
So I removed the mortherboard from the case and placed it on a piece of cardboard.
Disconnected everything except the internal speaker and power switch wires, video card and monitor, cpu and ram. I powered on and had the same problem.
I switched power supplies, video cards, RAM and monitor. Power on, same problem.
The interesting thing is, I don't get a POST beep. I also don't get the ASUS speech post. When I removed the CPU and power up, I recieve a "no CPU installed" voice post message.
So I thought the CPU might be bad. So I borrowed a BFG mobo and plugged in the CPU, video card, and ram. Powered it on and I get a bios screen.
I am confused. The motherboard appears to be working besides the lack of display. Lights turn on, fans spin, the voice post works without CPU. And yet the CPU works in another motherboard.
Is there a possible issue between this particular CPU and the motherboard? The motherboard and CPU were both purchased last week at Newegg.
The CPU I bought is no longer listed on Newegg. It has a model number: ADA3500BWBOX whereas the one now on newegg has the model number ADA3500BPBOX. Is the ADA3500BWBOX a brand new stepping of the A64 that is not supported by the ASUS mobo's BIOS? If so, why would this chip work on the BFG mobo?
What do you guys think could be wrong?
