Bad Hardware or just bad drivers?

I'm begining to think this may be a common issue... but i cant understand how it works... my computer will artifact the sh*t out of my screen then either crash or recover from a "driver stopped responding but has recovered message"

my old GTX 670 was running fine, 0 crashes and 0 issues, just installed today my new 2 gtx 680's in SLi mode and been getting a lot of artifacts and such :( this mainly happens on Unigine Heaven and Gmod for some reason, also incredibly whenver I run YouTube videos it tends to happen a lot!

It happens in both Single and SLi mode. I doubt both of my cards are duds and plus seems to me that a LOT of people are with this problem out there! but I just cant find a fix for it

this is the EVGA GTX 680 2gb Superclocked series and YES i have installed latest drivers and removed older one with driver sweeper! (on safe mode)

anybody got anything for me?

Do any of those show artifacts while booting up the PC or in BIOS when running them individually? If so, they're probably defective and you should RMA it.

you sure about that. That has happened just once....

is there any other reason it could be... cause this is the second time id be RMA for 2 video cards at newegg

I presume that you have tried each 680 individually in your system to see if they both exhibit the same symptoms? The odds of both cards being faulty is very slim.

Also, what power supply are you running?

I see you are running the Corsair 850 psu which should be enough for the 680s.

think i found the problem!
i took the 2 cards out of the computer completely

card #2 was the first to go on to be tested :
Unigine = no errors
YouTube = no errors
Garry's Mod = no errors (the application did stop responding but I had no crashes, i think this is a app error and not card)
Skyrim = no errors

nor for #1

card#1:
Unigine: Error within 20 seconds of being started

DID NOT TEST REST DUE TO CONSTANT CRASHES

my guess this is a bad card then huh??

pretty sure its the card... even when i disable sli. with that particular card connected i get driver crashes

the last test would be to take the defective card and try it in a different computer and see if it still gives you problems. If you don't have a means to do that, its ok - pretty safe to say its a bad card.

Also try out a different sli bridge while you're at it. Back when I had a 580 sli setup I would get constant artifact when gaming and such. I've tried reinstalling the drivers, testing the cards out individually, and only to find out that it was a flaky sli bridge that caused the issues.

I don't see the need of doing further tests if one is obviously not running correctly while the other runs fine using the same PCI-E lane. I originally ordered 2 6970 lightnings and had similar issues, turned out that one of them was defective, IMO it's just a headache to keep on testing it (I did that, A LOT), just RMA if you can do that.

No question to me that if one card works and the other errors out, it is defective. Just give em a call and start the RMA process again. Pretty sad when you can't buy two video cards and expect them both to work.

Matter of fact. The last four times I ordered a video card I had to RMA day one. That's both brands too. It's not one over the other for sure. I guess the OP and I have the same amount of luck.:p

already RMA'ed it!

i couldnt take it anymore so I just asked for a full refund and newegg gave it to me with no restockign fee and they even paid for the shipping

what a great website

Now I have a GTX 680 SC as my main card and a GALAXY GTX670 as a secondary (physX) card

I think i might have went too overpowered on my PhysX card :s

not to be rude but if you read the post you would have seen that I did lol

Newegg really treated you well, very nice. You really going to keep the 670 as physx?

@bababooeyHTJ: its cool, im getting extremely tired myself right now

@manofthem: Idk... should I? is there any benefits to keeping this card? or should I just return it and get something else?

GTX 670 as a physx card? BLASPHEMY!

Seriously, you'd get MUCH better performance if you sold the 680, got yourself another 670 and run them in SLI mode, you'll also have some cash to spare..

It has been tested several times already that a separate Physx card doesn't help much when your main card is an Nvidia card which already capable of hardware physx (let alone a High end Nvidia card like the 680), even when your main card is an AMD there's barely any improvement for separate physx cards when going anything above gts450 or the like.

Agree 100%

Seriously a 670 as a physics card? That is borderline ridiculous. Its like having a Ferrari as the car you use to go to the grocery store only with. If you REALLY wanted a physics card, you can get one from these forums for about $50 and it will do fine.

But, I agree with metallicaband, for the best results, sell the 680 and get another 670 and run them in SLI. You will get absolutely ridiculous performance out of it. (AND FFS, please tell me you will at least be running triple monitors with that setup.)

i returned the gtx 670 (467.00$)

i figured ill just keep one 680, and when the time comes if i need a upgrade ill buy another 680 and sli the beast. good plan?
