I realize this is a bad question but....... is the fsb of a cpu backward compatabile as is ram? Or a mobo backward compatabile with a cpu in any way?????

Yes I am going out on a limb of the bone head tree with this one, so sorry in advance

Or is it plain and simple if the core clocks aren't the same it just wont work???

Not quite sure what you mean, but do you mean that if, say, a motherboard is advertised as supporting a 1600MHz FSB, would it work with a CPU that required a 1066MHz FSB? If that's the question, then yes, the motherboard should work provided it has support for the CPU family in question. It might help if you specify which CPU and motherboard you're thinking of though.
