bad experiences with seagate?

i'm deciding which 1TB HD i want to spring for. im noticing that seagate is consistently cheaper than other brands, but i've had bad experiences with those drives. would anyone else advise against seagate?

does anyone have anything good to say about the hitachi deskstar 7k1000?
 
usually its the other drives that are consistently cheaper than the seagates. they have by far the best warranty which accounts for their increased price.

they are fantastic drives, though speedwise they're topped somewhat by other samsungs and WDs. if speed isn't your ultimate goal then they're a great choice (archival/storage)
 
I personally have about 10 Seagates from 7200.7 to .11's and have built a couple of dozen systems with them over the past few years with no dead drives at this point.
 
I have a 7200.11 in my current build that I am very happy with.

Every manufacturer has their share of dead drives.

I have 3 of the 7200.10 drives and they have been great. I also have a pair of their drives in my laptop and no complaints there. However I have a 500 Gb FreeAgent Pro external drive that I absolutely hate.
 
I have never really had any issues with segate. I think I have only had 1 complete drive failure of a very old HD (it was under 10GB). Personally I only buy segate/maxtor and WD drives. I have never tried any other brands and so far I have been pretty lucky I guess.

I have had failures from Samsung, Maxtor, Wester Digital, and Seagate. Some have failed more than others, but Seagate is currently considered one of the best brands.



 
I've had failures from IBM only. Honestly all HDD makers have failures here and there. Do research and see who is performing the best and failing the least and buy that one.
 
I have 3 Maxtors, 4 Wester Digitals, and 2 Seagates all working for over a year.

Only one drive has ever failed on me and it was a WD. I like Maxtors they seem to be cheaper by a few dolla's.
 
Maxtor is owned by Seagate.

They are still operating as a subsidiary of them, but that can only last so long.
