I just got me a new Gateway 21' monitor yesterday. So far everything looks nice, except for when I play DVD's on my pc. The video is so grainy. I've tried messing with tsome software settings, but it doesn't seem to help.

Specs:
AMD XP 2800+
ATI Radeon 9550 256megs
512-ddr 333mhz
Currently using VGA, no DVI supplied

Is this just a common problem with LCDs? Because my old NEC FE700 displayed my dvd's beautifully. Will a new vid card or DVI cable help?
On a side note, I downloaded a demo of Terminator:2 HD version and the special effects are suberb!! They jump right out at ya, but then the actual video wasn't too good. Better than my dvds though. I really want this monitor to work for me cause it's the only top of the line( well to me it is )....anything...that I've ever bought. I've always bought mid to low end components for my pc. Well, hope yall can help. Thanks.
 
thats probably because a normal DVD has a lower resolution than your monitors native rez.
 
So if I change the resolution, then the dvds will look better? Just wondering if you have an LCD monitor, and how is the picture? As good as a regular tv? thanks.
 
its just how LCD does it. they don't scale pixels well ie anything out of native resolution will look grainy and pixelated.
 
Damnit!! So what your saying is that I can't do anything about it? Man, this was gonna double as my tv too...shiat....I'm such a newb at these things. :mad:

True, but you having a 2005fpw kind of negates that as the scaling is relatively awesome...

No problems with DVDs with either of mine...

lol yeah i do say the 2005 is better than most LCD, but sometimes i still wish that, or should i say, miss the way CRT s scales video.
 
You could use something like FFDShow and upscale the video before it gets to the screen, that usualy helps alot...
