Bad Axe 2 + Freezer Pro 7 - HELP!

Hi,

I'm noticing some problems with fitting the Artic Freezer Pro 7 on my Intel Bad Axe 2 motherboard and was hoping to get some advice. When installed as suggested with the air blowing towards the rear exhaust fan the chipset heatsink is interferring with the 92mm fan clip. I can push it in which pushes the heatsink plastic just a very tiny amt though and everything is attached. It is touching though but when I push down on either the chipset heatsink or the freezer pro both seem to be able to move and slide.

I'm not sure if that's safe to do since I don't want to hurt the thermal contact with the chipset heatsink and I want to make sure the freezer pro is totally touching the CPU. The one solution I've found so far is that the 92mm fan they give you with the freezer can practiclly clip anywhere on the heatshink. So if I clip the fan just one fin higher it fit's perfectly fine. The only problem is that the bottom most fin won't get any air coming from the fan.

I've attached a picture of it touching to take a look at so you can get a better idea of what I mean. Any ideas? Is it safe just to connect the freezer pro 7 fan up one fin and have everything fit fine? Should I just leave it as is with it touching?

Thanks in advance! (Picture is below)

Hi Ridden,

well if it's touching and it's possible to solve this problem by mounting the fan a single fin higher than I'd try to do it this way. It surely won't have too big influence on the cooling-performance.

Great thanks! That's what I'm hearing from most people. I've heard one person say they cut the frame of the bottom of the fan out to fit but without overclocking the e6700 I doubt I'll need to.

From what I hear if I do raise it up a one fin level on the fan clip, I should watch the temp. and make sure it doesn't get close to 60 C under full load (E6700 not OC'd). Is that correct? Any specific programs I should use to stress test the CPU temp?

Thanks!

So are you saying that now that the fan is mounted a fin higher than you can try to rock the freezer and it won't budge? I'm having a problem with mine where it'll freely rock and lift off the ihs in all directions. For me, there's nothing holding the freezer up. Grr

Yes, I've mounted the fan one fin higher but the fan shouldn't have much to do with the heatshink moving. My heatshink is firmly attached and won't budge. I can push on it of course but it's securely attached.
