I started a build early on in the year and after a couple weeks ran into a memory issues (comp would read 8, 10 or 12 of the actual 12 installed) Then i ran into the computer crashing, some errors looked like memory others looked like HDD. Then I could hear the hard drive, clicking noises come from the one with the OS. Then came the BSOD.

I took it to a buddies that is a tech, we determined that the HDD was bad, so i bought a SSD to replace it. He got the RAM all configured to show 12. When we installed the SSD, reinstalled win7 the mobo is only showing 10gb again.

There are a total of 3 drives and we realized that they had to be installed just right to be recognized and run correctly if at all. With all 3 drives installed the bios will see them, but when you go to boot, windows stalls out on the loading scree. This did this for every variation we could think of as far as cable and order. And now another HDD is starting to make the same clicking noises and not alowing windows to boot. (with just the SSD, works fine, with the SSD and the good HDD, works fine, just the 3rd drive has an issue). Just to clarify that again:

1 + 2 = boot, 1 + 2 + 3 =no boot, 1 + 3 = no boot

HDD 1 OS
HDD 2 Good
HDD 3 Bad

I am thinking the mobo is bad, and their is a conflict somewhere with all of this, unless someone thinks otherwise.

Long read I know, I, sorry, thanks for the help guys!

Sometimes the boards do have bad RAM slots. Other times the HSF is tightened down too much and it warps the board causing troubles. You can't fix the first issue, but you can loosen up your HSF screws just a little to reduce warping.

It sounds like memory timings, voltages & NB settings are off....Usually ASUS makes a solid board & just needs a little tweaking depending on the RAM you use....you have to give us some more details before we can even suggest anything...start by setting RAM timings to default & votages a notch hihger than defaut for the speed you are at...

What about the bad HDDs, 2 brand new drives making noises and the stallint out on windows load when a certain congifuration is setup? I edited the OP, noticed some spelling and some errors and added something to help explain the HDD issues.

At some point i did notice that the jbmicron RAID Controller was showing up on the POST screen all the time, saying drives were not found. Thought it was just there, informing me, but wasnt sure.

In the bios though there is nothing set for RAID, and any other RAID setting would have been software based from within windows, but that was reinstalled.

Maybe the cmos should be cleared and completely redone at this point.

Friday i was able to run Prime95 and Burn In Test several times, do multiple test with no issue. I played music, loaded 3D drafting software even did some renderings.

Sunday was a really bad day. About 20min of being on, the computer froze up while i was setting up my media librarys in WMC. From there is went down hill. Even the BIOS froze up while loadind. I noticed a trend when rebooting, if a successful restart then BIOS loaded fine. If manual restart, or BSOD, then Express Gate would not load properly (missing installation file), or BIOS would hang, or NTDLR missing, or boot source missing.

Also with 3 HDDs installed Win7 takes 2-3minutes to load. With just the 1 hDD its take 10seconds.

I started an RMA for the mobo and thought it was just a setting or the fact that i did have bad ram, but since taking care of all that it seems to be worse.

Any ideas?
