Bad AGP port?

I think my agp port is on its way to death, is it possible to put my 6800GT in one of the pci ports till I get a new mobo?

This is the problem, when I turn my machine on I get the same routine that ussually happens. bios loads, then I get the windows loading screen but when it goes to my desktop it is all garbled, safe mode works and if I re-seat the card it works till I move the case around then it locks up and the screen goes black. I tried the rthdrbl and it runs it fine (ive only run it for about 30 min). any ideahs?

yeah, um... let us know how that works out for you!

Seriously though, I would not risk damaging the card and don't put it in that motherboard anymore. make sure all the connectors on the card are good, then try it in a different mobo.

or sell it and upgrade to PCI-E and get a new video card & mobo

Selling it and doing the pcie with a 7800 gt or gtx is the idea, but not right now, I have to wait for taxtime, thanks for the tips though.

btw, don't put the 6800gt in a pci slot....that'd end poorly.

If you have a spare AGP card try to use it in your box and see if you get the same results. If no then we know its the card, and it should be RMA'ed.

Just want to rule out the card, and the AGP slot. With other known working hardware this can be achieved to see what the culprit is...

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the vid card drivers???

good luck!

If moving the case ever so slightly after re-seating the card, then either you are doing something wrong or the mobo has bad/sensative connectors, I think the second one is more likely. I would get a new mobo. PCI and PCI-E are not compatible, so like others in this thread have said, don't try it.

thanks fellas for all the information, I cant RMA the card, I have had it for about a year and I installed a zalman about 4 months ago...I doubt it is the card though. as soon as I can say with complete confidence that it is a mobo problem I am prolly going to put the card up for sale in the sale forum and yes I will garuntee it to be non- doa when that time comes. I really think that it is the mobo, before the zalman went on, I had a terrible time with a NV silencer and the card was taken out and put back in a million times so it may be a bit worn out. I have a ultra x power supply and the donggles are fairly stiff and not to tight in their sockets on the PSU end so I am almost positive that it is just a bad connection either there or in the AGP socket, I think that I am just not going to move the case till I get my taxes back, if the case is moved while it is powered on and it locks up and forks up is that going to ruin my hardware?

No, but a power surge can really F**k it up. :) lol

No, you'll be fine if it moves, locks up.. just hit the power button till it shits down, wait a few then power back on. PC may ask to scan one of your disks.... :)

awsome, thanks. my biggest fear is that I am going to try to re-create the "failure" whatever it may be and end up really F'n it up.
