Before I went to bed last night I put on Prime95 for some more stress testing of my proc. When I woke up this morning the system was a bunch of lines and colored blocks. When I restarted BIOS and the POST screen show up perfectly fine, but when the windows bootscreen shows, the boxes on the bottom are corrupted, and when it actually boots into windows, its colored boxes and lines again, and after a few seconds, it turns off video output. when I boot into safe mode, I can see the login box but there are a lot of lines around on the screen. Before I went to bed it was completly fine. I've asked ATi for an RMA but any other ideas? A GeForce2 Pro (AGP also) tests perfectly fine. I'm going to try to test this in my friends computer to make sure it is the vid card.
 
Alright NOW its weird...

I swapped in the GeForce2 as I said and it was fine. I burnt a bootable distro of windows (PE Builder if anyones interested) and swapped in the ATi...and it was fine! Completly! So hopeful, I rebooted the computer into regular windows...and got the same distortion. I have removed all the catalysts from the normal windows install when I had the GeForce2 in. This is fucking weird and annoying and I dont know whats going on. Im thinking of doing a reformat...but it came out of NOWHERE all of the sudden so it might not even be that.

im trying a recovery, the CD is loading right now.

also dont do that PE Builder thing I was telling you about...if you try more than 3 operations it stops working...what a piece of shit. i couldnt even copy my files to another drive with it.
 
hm, doing a recovery had corruption even during the setup screen (the second part, the one with the windows propaganda text and the boxes that move in the bottom right). wiped the drive and doing a full install and im in that screen right now, no problems.

weird ass error all around. i hope it doesnt come back again...lan party next weekend

ok so I disabled 8x, fast writes, and upped the AGP voltage by 0.1v. now it works fine...but I cant FUCKING INSTALL THE DRIVERS! They install fine...I restart...windows loading screen...BLACK SCREEN! eventually it restarts and if I go in with VGA mode it tells me that the ATi driver caused the problem. this is with cats 4.2 and 4.1. this happened before but I cant remember for the life of me how I fixed it (I thought I just used the older ones).

reformatted AGAIN, did exactly this, in this order:

* Installed XP
* Installed nForce2 3.13
* Rebooted
* Installed Cats 4.3
* Rebooted
* HUNG ON FUCKING REBOOT LIKE IT WAS DOING BEFORE

Is there ANYWAY to turn off the self test as I'm 99% sure that's causing it?

Also I don't know if I have DirectX 9 installed, but doesn't it yell at you if you don't? I installed it before when I was having problems and it didn't help...
 
DX 9 on doenst help either. plus i cant borrow my friends card until 9 tonight because its going to be sitting in his computer at home while hes at work until 9. yep, he wont let me borrow it because he wont be using it.

im just pissed off at all of this, dont mind me. any help is very VERY much appreciated. google tells me nothing, ATi's phone number doenst fucking work, and ATi's email tech support is slow.
