Backupexcec - how to restore system state on another machine?

I want to restore the VSS and system state as I need to restore a file that the backups don't cover, and I am hoping it might be in the VSS. How do I go about restoring that state to another machine? In file redirection i can point to another machine, but don't think that is working for the state, only file level stuff. We are using BE 12.5.

VSS files are specific to the machine that they came from. They cannot be used on a different machine, iirc.

Hmm was afraid of that. So there's no way to restore that somewhere to view it?

huh... I could be wrong. It looks like they can be moved, but I don't believe a simple copy/paste will do it.

You can also use backup and replication tools designed to work with VSS to move the copies to another VSS-capable server in another site

although that sounds more like re-directing the VSS to another server while the server doing VSS is still alive; not just a simple copy/paste of the VSS files/metadata

If the server currently housing the VSS files is still alive, you should be able to move it. Just not particularly sure how.

Although it sounds like you need different software to do that.
