I already have my external backup drive, and now need a piece of software to use to back my system up. I have the maxtor drive, which came with software to do it (one button deal), however, I do not know how good it is. I used to use ghost, but I'm trying to stay away from nortons products as much as possible.

Does anyone have any suggestion on which program to use to make my system up (just want to make a copy of it) just as ghost does with the image of your hdd?

Is maxtors one touch backup software any good?

Thoughts are appreciated.

If it's Dantz Retrospect, it's fairly powerful stuff. If not, I can't speak for or against it.

Ghost works outside of the Windows environment because then it can back up everything, not just what Windows leaves access to open. You won't be able to get a full system backup from within windows because windows locks files.

You can do a system state backup with the Windows Backup Utility. It's actually pretty powerful (designed for enterprise needs) and the price is right. Check it out and see if it does what you need before you go looking to throw down your cash. It will work just fine if you only need to backup documents and the like.
